Today we have had a Tuakana/Teina day so that teachers can take time to reflect and discuss data. We found that for the Junior school it has been particularly hard to track and compare data becuase of children changing year groups based on their birth date and students moving classrooms.
This year my class data shows there has been lots of positive shifts in Writing. I think this is due to a specific and predictable writing lesson format that the students are used to. This lesson format is the same in Room 1 and I think that this really helps the students because they know what to expect. I also think that having a free writing table has helped students engagement and motivation. They have a specific table set up with paper, pens, felts and coloured pencils. I have seen children before school and during Fun Friday time choose to write stories and make books. This has created students who enjoy writing and therefore they are making good progress.
Here are some pictures of the students book. I Only helped him do the block writing for the title and helped him do the first flap for his book. He created the rest all by himself during our developmental morning.

The area I need to focus on next year is Reading. This is the curriculum area where majority of my students are not meeting the National Standard. Next year I am going to put more of a focus on Basic sight words and have a buddy reading timetable set up where students from the senior school come and read with my students before school.
